In 1999, 3 friends and I traveled across the country in a 1984 Volvo (240 sedan) with 328,000 miles on it. We drove from the North Shore of Massachusetts to the Central Coast region of California, roughly from August 25 to September 20. Then we stayed in California for about a month. I flew home. Another friend flew home later. 2 other friends (the crazy ones) drove that same Volvo back (via the Southern route), this time sans brakes.
