The Fourth of July
It was the Fourth of July during the summer before my senior year of high school and waking up at 11:00, I knew it would be a great day. I started the day like normal, going downstairs and watching sportcenter for about half an hour and then taking a shower and getting dressed. Once I was up and fully awake I sat around my house and played some video games for a while.
At sometime around 3:00 I got a phone call from my friend Paul. Apparently, everyone was heading over to Ben's house for a game of woofle ball and to grill some burgers. We played our game of woofle ball and after everyone had finished eating there burgers, we all headed down to the end of the lane that Ben lived on to watch the county fireworks.
We were a little early still to see the fireworks so as we waited we messed around with some fireworks of our own. Earlier in the week Paul and I had made a trip to Missouri where we each bought about a hundred dollars worth of fireworks a piece. We shot off a few bottle rockets and roman candles while we listened to the music from Dan’s truck.
Then came the real fireworks. It wasn’t the most impressive display of fireworks but we’d learned not to expect too much from the county’s fireworks show. It had, however, improved greatly compared to the last few years. We sat out and watched until the show came to an end. Once the show ended we all sat in lawn chairs in the back of Dan’s truck and drove around town.
As we road we went over the railroad tracks across the underpass and made a trip over all kinds of pits and mud holes. Then Dan drove out into the country and was going ninety miles an hour, which got very cold for those of us who were riding in the bed of the truck. When we were finally finished driving around we stopped at the local radio station to visit with Kipp, who unfortunately had to work until 11:00 that night.
We headed back to Ben’s where we all just chilled for a while until Kipp got off work. Once Kipp was off work we decided to end the night with a movie. We all stayed and watched “Clerks” and then everyone headed home for the night. That ended one very memorable Fourth of July night.
