Talk:Streetcars, 1930s, by Carter Jefferson
From MemoryArchive
I enjoyed this little history. My uncle lived in Dallas for a while in the 1950's and gave me a Dallas Street Railway transit map which showed Ervay still running streetcars. When living in the Boston area, I found out that the modern PCC trolleys that Dallas bought after WWII were sold the Boston MTA and were nicknamed the Texas Rangers. They were for some time the only double-ended streetcars in Boston (mid 50's thru mid 70's) and were use for short-turns on the Arborway line (particularly Northeastern Univ. and Brigham Circle) and on the Mattapan-Ashmont line.
Now Dallas again has "streetcars", but now a higher technology called light rail. I don't believe that these new vehicles operate anywhere near Ervay, however.
