Talk:Duty Aboard USS Albemarle (AV-5), 1945-46, by William M. Christensen Jr.

From MemoryArchive

Hello:

The photo of the USS ALBEMARLE (AV-5) is actually a photo of the USS CURTISS (AV-4).

The CURTISS and ALBEMARLE were both built with two boatdeck cranes. The CURTISS lost her forward (starboard) crane on 7 Dec. 1941, at Pearl Harbor, and it was never replaced. The ALBEMARLE had both of her boatdeck cranes until they were both removed after her transfer to the U.S.ARMY, and conversion to Hlo Repair Ship.

I have a number of AV-5 photos and paintings showing both cranes, if you would like them.

Thanks.
