I especially liked the line 'I could hear their laughter echoing inside the kitchen, sometimes so loud that birds perched on nearby trees would scatter in fright.' It was so cool to hear about your family's holiday. Your's are different from mine, but it'd be fun to be at one of your family's gatherings!
