Queen Elizabeth II in Canada, 1957, by Josh Williams

Who: Josh Williams What: Royal Visit When: 1957 Where: Sault Ste Marie, Canada
Though I could have the year wrong, when I was in grade school we were all bussed to Bellevue Park in Sault Ste Marie on the St. Mary's River on the Candadian side to greet the Queen. The royal ship Brittania was at anchor in the River as Her Majesty was there to inaugerate the St. Lawrence Seaway. Her Majesty and Prince Philip were brought ashore in a longboat with sailors. She is wearing a summer dress of white and blue. That I saw her and heard her greet her loyal subjects is all I remember but there is a marvellous aura to the memory. She seemed so beautiful.
To think that royalty should come ashore without all sorts of security and walk among us is a measure of the time.
