Praying Mantis, Toronto, 2002, by Dave, Colette, Joe, Sabrina
From MemoryArchive
Who: Dave, Colette, Joe, Sabrina What: Praying Mantis on the ceiling! When: 2002 Where: Toronto
The first time we went to visit Dave at his new condo... We got settled and had a few glasses of wine and were sitting around chatting when a praying mantis wandered onto the clear white ceiling.
Sabrina: "Oh my God, it's a praying mantis" (she's an entomologist)
Joe: "Holy shit."
Dave: "Let's get it down."
Colette: "Don't hurt it."
So we got it down from the ceiling and poked it and stuff; like you would do if you found an insect in your living room. Dave and Colette kept it for a few days but tried to feed it leaves. (Praying mantises eat other bugs -- Colette is sitting next to me right now and is freaking out because she just realized that).
Dave brought it down to the park a few days later and set it free on a tree.
Dave: "That was probably the end of his life -- he probably got pegged off by a seagull."
