Ode to Road Trips, by Allison and her Cousin
From MemoryArchive
Who: Allison and her cousin What: Car Trips When: Childhood Where: Ohio to Florida
I remember the long car trips down,
With the numerous amount
Of rest stops, their food courts
Like mini malls or Las Vegas.
I remember how my cousin flashed
Her Steelers jersey to the Browns
Fans behind us. I remember that
We carried on a conversation
Through the windows. Later on,
I remember naming strangers at the pool.
We named an 80 year-old woman
Amanda and made her our fake friend
For the week. We went on adventures
At night, attempted to make a music video
Entitled “Showstoppers” but really only
Showed a speed limit sign for five seconds.
We planned go-cart rides, trips to the beach, dinners,
Shopping – but we did not plan the sun
Poisoning which appeared like red bugs
Or rashy glitter on our chests.
