My Grandfather's War Stories, 1992, by Jordan Walker

Who: Myself What: My Grandpa's war stories When: 1992 Where: My grandparent's house
The first memories I can remember that involve military and warfare involves listening to my grandpa talk about his experiences during World War II. He was a pilot of a B-24 Liberator and flew missions over Italy and Austria during the war. I was fairly young at the time so he wouldn't get into too much detail whenever I asked him questions but I loved listening to his stories. His B-24 was nicknamed "Things is Rough" and he always emphasized the fact that in the 25+ bombing runs he made during the war he never lost a man, and on one occasion had to fly his B-24 back to base after losing two of his engines. I've realized after looking back at these memories that these stories were what stoked my interest in history and probably led to me becoming a history major.
