My Childhood Friend, 1990, by Caroline.
From MemoryArchive
Who: Caroline and Elena What: Story of our special childhood bond When: Summer of 1990 Where: Upstate New York
When Elena and I were about 8 years old, we made up our own special language. We lived near a small pond and one of the games we played was standing at opposite sides of the pond and screaming our language to each other. Then we would come together and see how much of it the other had understood. Between the distance and the complicated nature of our created language, it was not easy. One day, we went out and played this game. At the end of the summer when we talked about what we had taken away from our sessions, we realized that we had both had such different interpretations on the language and what had been said, but we had both still shared something through the experience. I guess this is when I realized that communication went deeper than words.
