In 2003, Mikhail Gorbachev came to American University to speak to our students. In a packed stadium ( Bender Arena to be exact), President Gorbachev stood at a podium and read a speech that was translated by his interpreter. The speech covered issues facing the world as it progressed into the 21st Century, especially in terms of terrorism and democracy. It was a great experience for me, a freshman at American University.
