On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina affected alot of people, especially my family. When everyone found out that a hurricane was coming, my family was not planning on staying at home. My grandma, my aunt, and some more of my family members stayed in a hotel, while my mom, dad and I stayed at their apartments. That whole night was windy and rainy, and it really didn't bother me until the next day hit. The whole parking lot was full of water and street signs and trash was blown every where. We really didn't think of how bad the storm really was until we left to go check on my family at the hotel. We tried to find differents routes to take because all the streets were flooded and blocked off. We started seeing alot more damage, once we got further down the road. Trees were on top on people's cars and houses, it was something I've never seen before. Then, we went to go check on my grandma's house, the road leading to her house was so flooded, that there was no way for us to get down there, unless we walked through the water. Me, my mom, and a few people who lived around my grandma's neighborhood walked through the water to check on the house. We were so afraid because we didn't know whether there were snakes, aligators or any type of creature in the water, so we just kept watch. When we finally got around to her house, we were relieved, because nothing had happened to her house. But little did we know, we found out the house had been flooded, AFTER we came back a few hours later, or maybe it was the next day. But even though Katrina left a lot of people's hearts broken, a lot of people stil got back on their feet. We had to throw out EVERYHTING and clean EVERYTHING. But once my grandma got all her new furniture, walls, appliances, etc, it was just like she had bought a new house!!! It looked amazing and she loved it.
