Hurricane Katrina was a terrible event. I'm sure it is a day no one will soon forget. Hurricane Katrina affected me and almost all of my family.
Before the storm alot of people thought that it would be no big deal, so some people didn't prepare for the storm as well as they shoukd have. My family was very worried about the huuricane because my dad was out offshore working and it was headed that way. The company he worked for evacuated the rig ,but he stayed behind to help them move the rig. He was on t.v for staying and helping when everyone else left.
About a day before the storm we left to go to the hotel that we were staying at in Escatawapa. We stayed there for the entire hurricane. During the first part of the hurricane nothing really happened. The worst part was there was no water or air conditioning. During day two of the hurricane terrible things started happening. One of the staircases collapsed, part of the roof of the top floor collapsed. That meant every one on the top floor had to either go to the lobby or with a relative on the ground floor. That just made a bad situation worse, people were packed in the lobby like cattle in a slaughter house.
Sometime during the hurricane i was bitten by some kind of spider or insect on my leg. When the storm was over we went to my aunts house, and when she saw my leg she said i should go to the hospital. We went to the hospital and when we got there it was so busy. A woman and her daughter were there because her daughter had left her seizure medication at home and she was having alot of seizures. People came in who had been knocked over by the wind and broken bones. People came who had things hit them because the wind had blown it around. We were at the hospital for eight hours.
After the hurricane we had nowhere to go because we lost our home. My aunt worked at a hotel and said we could stay there for a little while.
