Being from FL and knowing a hurricane was coming to DC I felt pretty prepared. I have to say American University was not prepared at all. I was so excited to finally have a hurricane day, and call my parents and tell them a hurricane was heading for D.C. It was all over the news, and everyone thought we were going to get hit very badly. We got off from school, and were told to stay inside the dorms. Of course everyone knows it is dangerous to go outside in a storm like that, or play in puddles, not knowing what else is floating around in them. It seemed a little ridiculous when I saw kids taping their windows and making signs. Obviously, these people had never been through a hurricane before. But this was a little ridiculous. It was only a category 1 hurricane. That is nothing, as it turns out when it hit, it was a big nothing. It was hardly windy or rainy. But hey it was awesome we got a day off of school. The only thing I can really remember is that a bunch of girls and boys went mud wrestling outside in the quad at American University and came back to the dorms with all the mud getting all over the place. Of course, everyone else got in trouble for their mess. Another thing also very memorable was all the drinking and parties that went on in honor of the Hurricane Isabel. This hurricane is nothing compared to the hurricanes that occurred this year (2005) but is just a warning about how everyone should be prepared for a hurricane.
