At 12:00 A.M. on New Year’s Eve, well technically New Year’s Day, it is a tradition to set off firecrackers. That tradition has engraved a memory into my heart. A night I would never forget. My best friend Alaina planned to spend New Year’s Eve with me for the first time when we were about thirteen. I couldn’t wait to pop fireworks with her. It was my favorite part. It seemed as if time froze as I wanted it to fly by. To fasten things, I decided Sarah, Alaina, and I should walk around the neighborhood. Not realizing how close it had actually gotten to midnight, we began to walk the block. Telling funny jokes, somehow led to horror stories. While walking through the woods on a dirt road, I saw a truck parked off the side of the street. I decided to try and freak them out by asking, “Do you think that there is someone in that truck, just waiting for us to get close enough so they can attack?” That did the job….as Alaina and Sarah whispered to each other, I could sense the fear in there voices. As we neared the truck, everyone joined hands to feel more safe and secure. Just as we came alongside it, the first firework of New Year’s went off. “BOOM!” It was extremely loud, sounding like a cannon. We instantly broke into a run, leaving Alaina behind. As she tried to run, her baggy pants, held by a safety pin, dropped to her ankles. I was laughing so hard, my throat began to ache. Falling to the ground, she began screaming. She cried for help as she lay on the ground in shock from the noise. She struggled to get off of the ground and pull up her pants. A few minutes later, we reunited with Alaina, laughing like a bunch of Hyenas in a circle in the middle of the road. That had to be the most hilarious scene I’ve ever witnessed.
