It was the morning of March 27, 2006 at about 7:50 and I had just left my house, late again. So I go to thinking to myself since I’m late I should probably speed to possibly make it to school on time. I was about 1 mile away from my house when it happened. I figured wow this is some evil early April Fool’s joke.

Through my rearview mirror I could see the cherry red and ice blue lights whirling around in circles like the wind. As I jammed my foot against the brake pedal, I smelt the aroma of burnt rubber coming from my tires as I sailed from going 84 mph all the way to complete stop. The cop came up to my truck and like a snail I rolled down my window. He started asking me questions like, “Do you know how fast you were going,” and “Do you have your license and registration?” I couldn’t concentrate so it just all seemed like a blur at the moment. I felt the sweat pile up in my palms as I clenched the steering wheel.

It seemed like an eternity before he finally returned back to my truck. I sat there with salty tears tumbling from my swollen eyes as he handed my his clipboard. I scribbled my name at the bottom of my ticket and that was it. As I drove to town I pondered about how I should break the news to my parents and how much I didn’t want to tell them. All I could think about the rest of the day was that and how much trouble I was going to be in.
