Let me start out by saying that I am a vegetarian, so this memoir will both gross me out and make me nostalgic. The best burger I have ever had was at the [|Corner Bistro]. It is a little tavern on the west side of Greenwich Village . It is on the corner of W 4th Street. The interior of the tavern is all dark hard wood. The stench of Ale hit me in the face the moment I opened the door to enter. There are black and while photographs from some previous decade decorating the walls. Everything that could possibly be covered in green was indeed so.
At the bar sat what I presume to be the local bar flies. Clearly beginning to make their way towards the floor. The bartender was man in his mid thirties. He yelled at me with a heavy Brooklyn accent “Hey, there gurly want a drink?” I humbly declined and asked where if they had any available tables. I started to feel like I was in some sort of time warp. As if I opened the door into the 1960’s, I was amazed this old Irish bar was still here, untouched in the west village.
Therefore, my friend and I sat down and ordered. The menu, if you want to call it that. It was written on a chalkboard, which looked old enough for my grandmother to have taken it to school. The men has if any variety. They literally have beer, soda, fries, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and chicken sandwiches. However, the burgers did not cost what it would have in the 60’s. No, I definitely paid eight bucks for a burger. It is in the West Village after all.
They serve their burgers on paper plates, which are delightfully translucent after you finish with your burger. The burger patty is en entire pound of beef. It is perfectly grilled and juicy. Literally, it melted in my mouth. It was so good. The bun was lightly toasted. Even regular ketchup tasted better with that burger than it had before. Moreover, for the while I was there I felt like a took a trip back in time.
