It was started by the first Bush, but continued on as a non-profit organization, after he left office. It makes sure children have the five promises. A caring adult, safe places, healthy start, marketable skills, and opportunities to serve. It was great working for them, I learned a lot of great things about the workplace, and how hard it is to actually make the difference. People are really lucky if they can just scratch the service. During my time there, they were starting a new campaign to get more important people involved. They had a huge Gala, which the interns got to attend, and help run. I got to stand at the door where all the important people were congregating. Some people got to stand at the door where others were entering. I guess you can say I got lucky. I met Colin Powell, his wife. Hillary Clinton, all the secret service. The Kennedy brothers, Wynona Judd, and of course everyone. There are just too many names. The really funny thing was that a lot of our important speakers only showed up for the time they had to speak and left right after, not enjoying the full Gala. They just made their appearance and left, to go make another appearance. There were important people from everywhere. Clay Aiken performed and the Duke Ellington Choir performed also. It was just amazing. It was a black tie event held at the Reagan center, with all these important political figures and I got to be there, and sit with them. It really shows that to get something started you need the backing of all the important people in Washington, DC.
