A Rainy Day

At the end of the day I was dreading soccer practice. Coach decided it was just going to be a running practice so we weren’t going to the fields. The bell rang and everyone rushed out of the classroom just glad that the day was over. I, however, was moving a little slower than usual because I was in no hurry to get to practice. I met Gabby in the Hallway and we walked down to the gym and got dressed and ready.

Practice started and coach told us to run a marathon lap which is 2.1 miles. It’s not as hard as it sounds, because you are running through town and it doesn’t seem as long. About half way through we could feel and see a few rain drops hitting us and the sidewalk. Everyone was praying for it to pour so practice would get out early, it did just that only practice was over before it really started pouring. We made it in just in time before the lightning started streaking across the sky. The whole team was in the locker room changing out of there sweaty clothes when this huge roar of thunder cracked and the lights went out.

Everyone screamed for about a second but then the lights came back on. It did this a couple of times. I was having trouble though; I could not get my locker open for anything. I was putting in the combination, it just wouldn’t open. The bad thing was that some of the other girls had put there keys and purses in my locker, so they couldn’t leave until I got my locker open. So after most of the other girls cleared the locker room Gabby and I went and got coach. He asked me for my combination and it hit me that I was using the wrong combination for my locker. We got it open, gave the girls their keys, and left the locker room.

It was about a half an hour after practice ended so I called my dad and told him to come get me and Gabby. We waited there for about 10 minutes and I had to listen to coach make fun of me for the combination thing. By this time it was pouring outside. It was so bad I could hardly make out the trucks and cars pulling up to the school. I saw a red truck pull up so Gabby and I were going to make a run for it. We sprinted to the truck that we thought was my dad. Instead it was a guy that I had never seen before. Gabby was pulling as hard as she could on the door but it was locked and it wasn’t budging the man was on a cell phone and didn’t notice us until we started to turn and run back to the school. He drove off pretty fast after that happened. By the time we got back into the school we were soaked and coach was laughing even more. It was about another five minutes later when my dad showed up and the rain hadn’t let up, so we were going to get even wetter.

This time it was my dad and we were thankful. We ran to my dad’s truck and slammed the door. We told him the whole story and he got a kick out of it, so he said. I don’t think I have ever laughed so much as I did when I saw the look on that guys face. That’s one rainy day I won’t ever forget.
