The day after Spetember 11, most offices in NYC were closed for the day. My housemates and I decided to go up to Prospect Park, a large park in Brooklyn we lived near. Walking around to find a place to sit, we ran into some friends and sat with them for a while. We mostly sat in silence. Even though most of us didn't know each other really well, no one felt like making small talk. It was profoundly quiet in the park, the roar of planes flying overhead being noticably absent. Someone observed that is was a really incredibly beautiful day, warm, sun shining, but none of us would have had the opportunity to notice and enjoy it if it weren't for the fact of the unspeakible trajedy that had happened the day before. We all thought about that one for a while. Eventually we got up and went home.
