Who: anonymous What: Terrorist attacks of 9/11 When: September 11, 2001 Where: Epworth, Iowa
I walked into my first class of the day to find we had a substitute teacher, and that she had the television on NBC where they were reporting on the first plane that had struck. We only watched for a little bit and then our teacher shut it off to start class. To be honest I didn't really dwell on it. Although it was certainly a tragedy I just assumed it was terrible accident and didn't even consider the possibility that it was an attack.
Our sub just gave us our homework and and then turned the TV back on about an half-hour later. Now both towers, as well as the Pentagon, were billowing smoke. Everyone just sat dumbfounded. No one spoke. At my next class, I remember our history teacher having us watch to coverage on TV, and he said that this would be the event that would shape our lives.
